Most of the $ 787 billion dollars in the Stimulus Package will come down to the states (60%) and and communities (40%) automatically. However, a preponderance of the grants will be competitive grants and the end user has to apply on a competitive basis. If eligible applicants were restricted to nonprofit organizations, there could be up to 1.6 million applicants in this field of applicants for some grants.
So, what is your chance of being a successful grant applicant? In order to be successful, the end user has to go through a state which I call ANCHORING and POSITIONING. Moreover, the mere filling out of a grant application form will not cut it unless certain principles are applied. What’s more, in many grant making environments, the administrator of the grant will have an inclination of who the successful grant applicant will be even before the application is reviewed.
So, unless the grant applicant is anchored and positioned, follows strict and obscure rules that are imbedded in the culture of the grant making community, being a successful grant seeker will be compromised. As a grant seeker, imagine being called by a grant maker and told to apply for an open grant which is administered by the caller. It happens every day!
